Our Mission & Community Impact

What We Stand For

For 40 years, Twice Is Nice has been more than just a store – we are the heart of a vibrant community where sustainability meets social impact. Our thrift store model generates crucial funding for local organizations serving seniors in need, while promoting environmental responsibility and providing affordable, high-quality resale goods, including clothing, home decor, and used furniture in Charlottesville.

Twice Is Nice is strictly a donation-based thrift store, not a consignment shop. Every item in our boutique is generously donated by the community. Our quality goods at affordable prices make TIN a go-to destination for anyone looking for quality finds at affordable prices.

Proceeds from Twice Is Nice are funneled back into the community annually via grants awarded to local nonprofits supporting a safe and secure life for seniors in need.

  • Through our unique business model, we are able to fund programs that impact the lives of seniors and their caregivers across Charlottesville and surrounding areas like Crozet, Ivy, Scottsville, Earlysville and Keswick.

  • Every item donated, purchased, or reused through Twice Is Nice supports environmental sustainability by keeping high-quality goods in circulation and out of landfills. Shopping with us is not only affordable – it’s a way to make a positive impact on the planet.

  • Our store is a welcoming space for staff, volunteers, donors, shoppers, throughout the Albemarle, Fluvanna, Green Louisa, and Nelson counties.

Community Impact

Over the past decade, Twice Is Nice has contributed more than $2 million in grants to local nonprofits supporting seniors in need. These organizations provide both life-sustaining and life-enhancing programs, helping seniors remain safely in their homes, access vital resources and services, and age with dignity. Past grant partners have included organizations such as Meals on Wheels, GRACE, Feeding Greene, Habitat for Humanity, and The Center at Belvedere.

Each request for funding undergoes a rigorous review process to ensure every grant creates meaningful, measurable impact. Through the Twice Is Nice Fund, we support programs that enrich the lives of seniors and their caregivers while helping them navigate the challenges of later life.

Together, these partnerships extend our impact far beyond our retail operations, creating a network of care that touches thousands of lives every year.

In 2025 alone, with assistance from Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the Twice Is Nice Fund awarded more than $300,000 to 31 nonprofit organizations serving seniors across Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson.

  • “Twice Is Nice is a rare gem where you can do something for yourself and help the community. I am a huge fan of TIN. I am there several times a month to treat myself and to get something for friends and family. I love TIN. Often, I proudly say, ‘everything I have on today I purchased from TIN!’ It’s a place that I go to meet friends, help the community, and treat myself.”
